TOIA is a Hip-Hop Rap artist and songwriter based out of Winston Salem, North Carolina with roots in San Diego, California as well as Louisiana. Influenced by the passion and lyrical creativity of male rap artists, and the soul and honesty of female R&B singers, her sound is a combination of the unique sounds of this generation’s music. Similarly to artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, Rodwave, Nicki Minaj and more, Toia is not on a mission to simply gain a large fan base, but rather to touch as many lives as possible with her genuineness.
Toia’s lyrics tell the stories of her many difficult experiences. She speaks often on her stressed family relationships and the struggle of living through Hurricane Katrina, a near death experience that changed the trajectory of what she thought her life would be. In a smooth and sultry cadence, she is able to encompass a familiar cultural sound that hosts words and a story that are uniquely her own.
Toia’s approach to creating musical content is from a place of pure vulnerability and strength. Morphing the poems she wrote as a child into what would eventually be the lyrics she relays today, was her way of coping with the complicated emotions that haunted her. With the visibility she has created for herself via social media and the undeniable sound of her music, Toia continuously helps heal hearts based on the strength of her poeticism.
